Sacred Textiles Conservation

Sacred Textiles

JLT Designs is experienced in the conservation and restoration of sacred textiles and textile objects, to include such items as altar and super frontals, copes, stoles, banners, hassocks, ark curtains and prayer shawls.

The Atelier provides a maintenance/cleaning service for the preservation and safe keeping of sacred textiles, the netting of distressed or fragile textiles, the transference of embroidered/decorative textiles onto a new ground fabric as well as providing custom made cover cloths, vestment covers and padded hangers.

We are also pleased to advise on storage and preventive conservation measures.

Gerard Hortom Tapestries

The Gerard Hortom Tapestries

In St Pauls church, at the top of the nave opposite the altar are textiles designed by Gerald Holtom – the creator of the CND logo. They were recently restored by local conservationist JLT Designs who has worked on and restored many old and historical textiles. The screen behind represents the 12 Apostles and the Christian Creed.
